Our office is open by APPOINTMENT only, and we are available by phone to make appointments for the office, maintenance and housekeeping Monday through Saturday 9 am to 5 pm.

The Wildcat Pool venue is open daily until Labor Day and the Swim Club is open Saturdays and Sundays for all activities, rockslide, watercraft in Lake Disharoon, pool and beach. The inflatable waterpark is NOT installed this year. You may bring your floats and chairs for the beach and lake area. Swim Club and Wildcat pools both included in $6 per person per day for Petit Crest owners and guests. Wildcat Pool only admission is $4 per day per person or $16 per week per person!

From the Big Canoe Board of Directors and General Manager:
The Board of Directors and management of Big Canoe have some very important news and COVID policy changes to share with you. These changes have been triggered by confirmation that a growing number of Big Canoe employees and property owners have tested positive for COVID-19. We are asking for your help and compliance with the below new policies for two very important reasons: the safety of our employees and our property owners.   The Big Canoe employees are our most precious assets and have been for almost 50 years. An advertisement for Big Canoe in the February 25, 1973 edition of the Atlanta Journal Constitution pictured our employees in front of the Chimneys and named each one of them! We have a long history of concern for them.
Many property owners and guests are interacting with the staff on a daily basis – often without any protective coverings to minimize the spread of the Coronavirus. Our employees are required to wear masks to protect you as well as them. Even so, if our employees become infected they can unknowingly spread the virus to other employees, their families, and to other property owners and guests. As recently happened to more than 70 employees at Ansley Golf Club in Atlanta, this could easily cause an amenity, or all our amenities, to be closed, endangering many people, and causing great effort and expense to perform contact tracing, disinfection, hiring, and retraining.   The safety of our property owners and the guests of Big Canoe is also one of our highest priorities. Not only do we have to minimize the virus risk for our employees, we must do the same for you, too. We have received credible reports of property owners testing positive in the community – not to mention the rampant spread of the virus outside our gates – many of whom exhibit no symptoms. It is essential that we put the safety of our friends and neighbors above our personal inconvenience.   Therefore, the POA Board of Directors and POA management are issuing the following new policy and procedures:   Effective immediately and until further notice, all property owners, guests, and employees are required to wear a mask or face shield when using any amenity or POA building. If you do not have one, a mask will be made available to you.   More specifically:   When dining in The Clubhouse, a mask must be worn at all times until your food or beverage is served. (The bar area of the Black Bear Pub will be closed for seating, as it is impossible to safely serve you in such close proximity).     In compliance with the latest State of Georgia Executive Order (p. 14 Item 3), all persons entering the Wellness Center will be subject to screening. This will include a temperature check and asking you several questions. Additionally, you are required to wear a mask at all times when using the fitness equipment and center.   When using the pool facilities, masks must be worn until patrons are either: (a) on the pool deck, (b) on the beach, or (c) on the water slide. Pool furniture cannot be moved as it has been positioned to ensure proper social distancing. Per the Georgia Department of Public Health code, the maximum number of people allowed in the Swim Club is limited to 250 people. Per the Executive Order (p. 27 Item 14), only 50 people at a time will be allowed within the fenced area surrounding the pool. Based on the same Georgia Guidelines, the maximum number of people allowed at the Wildcat Pool is 139.   At the Racquet Club and Marina, all property owners and guests must wear a mask until play begins, or until you leave the dock.   Given the tight hallways in the postal facility, anyone entering the building must wear a mask at all times. We are contacting the Jasper Postmaster to see if they will extend this policy to their employees working in the mail room.   Of course, you do not need to wear face covering when playing golf or tennis, enjoying the lake, or when hiking one of our great trails. However, when you enter the Golf Pro Shop or any amenity building, even for the briefest time, you must wear a mask.   As you can see, we are taking this issue very seriously. In fact, we will pursue disciplinary actions for those property owners and guests who flagrantly disregard this policy, or who harass an employee reminding them that a mask is required.   On behalf of the Board of Directors, management, and the employees who serve you, we deeply appreciate your cooperation during this unprecedented time in our lives. We are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of everyone who calls these beautiful mountains their home and workplace.   Thank you and blessings for good health.
We received this email from the Big Canoe POA today!

Everyone had an enjoyable 4th of July at Petit Crest this week — socially distancing with NO fireworks or festivities! There is a possibility the fireworks will be held over Labor Day weekend! The Swim Club pool and Wildcat pool remain open with social distancing in place, and limit to 200 people at the Swim Club. We are so glad to see everyone return to Big Canoe, and even though the new requirements are in place, everyone seems to be glad to be “out and about”! The Black Bear Pub is back open for inside dining, and the TAKE OUT has been suspended indefinitely. The HOME restaurant is doing TAKE OUT orders ONLINE at and they do curbside delivery to your car. You can also make reservations and dine inside as well!

The Marina at Lake Petit remains open for boat rentals and fishing; the golf course is open with limited play and one person per cart; and the Wellness Center is open by appointment only to Big Canoe residents at this time. Social distancing and stay safe protocols in place, like wash your hands and wear a mask!

May 19, 2020

Our plan is to open Petit Crest for check-ins on May 29th, 2020. The welcome packages will go to our owners and guests this week with the information that we have at that time. We still have no opening dates from Big Canoe for the pool venues, Wellness Center or tennis club. The Wellness Center is open by appointment only to residents only at this time, with social distancing in place. The restaurant at the Lake Sconti clubhouse is open for take-out only. Some area restaurants (Fuego and Forno) have opened their dining rooms for inside dining, while some are still closed or take-out only. We ask for your kindness and consideration while we attempt to manage everyone’s expectations during this unprecedented time of our lives. We are all in this together!

May 12, 2020

We are still anticipating opening Petit Crest Friday, May 29, 2020 for owners, exchangers and guests. We will practice social distancing and adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control. We appreciate your understanding and kindness during this time. Big Canoe POA has not announced any opening dates for the outdoor pool venues, tennis center, or Wellness Center. We do anticipate an announcement soon. The golf course is open as well as the Lake Petit Marina for boat rentals and fishing with social distancing guidelines in place. The hiking trails are open. Stay tuned for future updates!

May 4, 2020.

Our plan is still to open for reservations beginning May 29th, 2020. The amenities in Big Canoe remain closed for the most part, fishing and boating are permitted in Lake Petit with social distancing and the golf course is open to members with reserved tee times — limiting the number on the course and one person per cart. When we open May 29th, 2020, we will have our social distancing protocol in place and will adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control. We ask your kindness and patience during this process as we are protecting you, our staff, and the Big Canoe community during this time of possible contagion.

April 28. 2020.

All upcoming reservations for owners , exchangers, and guests for the Fridays beginning May 15th and May 22nd, 2020, have been cancelled. Our tentatively planned opening date is May 29th, 2020, which is week 22. Big Canoe gates are closed to visitors, and amenities are closed for the most part. When we do open, we will practice safe distancing and the recommendations published by the Center for Disease Control. These practices will remain in place as long as we deem necessary to insure the safety of our staff, owners, guests and exchangers. Extra sanitizing protocols have been put into place as well as extra personal protection equipment for our staff. We encourage our owners and visitors to be prepared to bring their own personal protection equipment from home, as we cannot provide this protection for you personally.

Stay safe, stay home, and we will update this site next Wednesday, or earlier if deemed necessary!

April 22, 2020.

Governor Kemp of Georgia has allowed some non-essential services to open in the state with safe practices in place, such as social distancing, wearing face masks in public places, and continued safe sanitizing practices. Petit Crest will be closed through May 14, 2020, with all May 1 and May 8 check-in reservations cancelled. Our planned date to open the resort will be May 15th, 2020, assuming the curve will flatten by then. The staff will be back full-time on Monday, April 27th, 2020, to prepare the resort for our owners and guests arrival on May 15th. At this time most all Big Canoe amenities are still closed. There is limited golf play and limited boat rentals only. Stay up-to-date with our progress here!

April 15, 2020. No new updates.

April 8. 2020. On April 2nd, Governor Kemp of Georgia issued a Shelter in Place Executive Order because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Big Canoe POA has worked diligently to protect Big Canoe along with the staff at Petit Crest to in turn protect Petit Crest. All non-essential work is to cease inside Big Canoe, and NO visitors are allowed with certain exceptions, such as food and medical supplies deliveries, contractors that provide safety, sanitation and essential services maintenance.

Stay safe, stay home, and we will update this site next Wednesday, or earlier if deemed necessary!

April 1, 2020, Wednesday

As of yesterday, the decision was made to close Petit Crest until May 1st, 2020. Evaluations will be made as necessary to ensure the safety of our owners, guests, staff and general public. We will continue to update the website as needed.

Big Canoe amenities continue to be closed, with the Black Bear Pub open for TAKE-OUT only. Minimal play is allowed at the golf course and there are limited activities available at the Lake Petit Marina. Social Distancing is encouraged in all outdoor settings, including the hiking trails and parks of Big Canoe.

Pickens County remains in a STAY AT HOME state for all non-essential workers with a handful of COVID-19 cases reported. We plan to do our part by social distancing, washing our hands thoroughly and often, and limiting trips for necessary items only. We encourage you to do the same!

March 25, 2020, Wednesday

The Pickens County Board of Commissioners issued a STAY AT HOME order for all non-essential workers in Pickens County. Big Canoe amenities are still suspended with limited golf play and minimal activities at the Lake Petit Marina. If you call the office and the answering service answers the phone, please leave a message and we will call you back. We are looking forward to the day when we can open the resort and get back to work providing fun vacations in Big Canoe!

March 24, 2020 , Tuesday

After much consideration, there was mutual agreement that we close Petit Crest to ALL inbounds, including owners. The numbers continue to rise for COVID-19 infections, and we intend to do our part to “flatten the curve”. The office will be closed for guests and visitors, and we will continue to staff the office Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm to answer questions and make future reservations. Let’s all do our part!

March 20, 2020, Friday

We are cancelling all upcoming reservations through and including exchange check-ins through and including April 10th, 2020.  With enhanced restrictions in place, we will not be able to provide you the vacation experience you expect when visiting Petit Crest.  At this time, there are issues with food and necessary supplies in the stores as well. Most restaurants are closed and are offering take-out orders only.  Most activities in the area (including Atlanta)  are closed due to the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control and the Governor of Georgia.

At this time, most all Big Canoe amenities are closed and suspended indefinitely.   Food service is available on a take-out only basis.

We always strive to provide exceptional service, and are fully committed to the health and well-being of our owners, guests and associates.  We understand this is a burden and inconvenience and we sincerely appreciate your patience during this time.
